As a mum: How can I set up the right routine.
1. Start With “What Do I Need Daily?”
Make a list of the non-negotiables that must happen every day:
- Meals - School runs - House tasks
- Work (if applicable)
- Rest time - Prayer time.
- Time with kids
- Time for herself
This is the foundation and the layaout of each starting day.
2. Understand the Flow of the Day:
Instead of copying someone else’s schedule, look at your family specification via :
- When are the kids most active or calm?
- When is she most alert?
- What time does the house wake up and wind down?
The best routine flows with the rhythm of your household, not against it. When you honor that rhythm, your routine becomes both flexible and practical — something that serves you, not stresses you.
3. Break the Day into Simple Blocks:
Rather than planning hour-by-hour, think in chunks:
- π Morning Block – Wake up, prep, breakfast, quiet time
- ☀️ Daytime Block – Errands, work, chores, kid activities
- π Evening Block – Dinner, family time, clean-up, bedtime
- π Night Block – Wind down, personal time, prep for tomorrow
4. Start Small — Don’t Overfill
Don’t try to do everything at once. Choose just 2–3 habits to focus on:, for example:
1. Making breakfast early
2. Setting a calm bedtime
3. Keeping 15 mins of “me time” daily
Once that flows well, add more.
5. Use Tools That Help Her Stay On Track
Simple tools can make a big difference. Try using:
- A basic planner or notebook;
- A whiteboard in the kitchen for reminders and meal plans;
- Alarms or phone notifications to guide transitions in the day.
You can also choose a weekly reset day — a time to clean, organize, and calmly prepare for the days ahead. It doesn’t need to be perfect, just intentional. This small act can bring peace and clarity into your week.
6. Be Kind to Yourself:
There will be days when the routine falls apart — and that’s okay. It happens to every mum. It says nothing about your abilities, your love, or your strength. Chaos is part of life, and it doesn’t mean you’ve failed.
Routine is about rhythm, not perfection. Step by step, day by day, your flow will settle. Some days will go beautifully with great plans, and others will feel messy and unplanned — just follow the natural rhythm of your family.
Even the right routine needs grace and rest. You’re not a machine — you’re a human being, doing your best with what you have. And in the process, you’re teaching your children one of the most valuable life lessons: that mistakes happen, and what truly matters is how we bounce back.
